Are you wondering how to get that great boutique finish on all your projects? Are you terrified of "making a mistake"? Well, here are some helpful tips to make your time at Uniquely Yours even more enjoyable!
1. Never underestimate the power of thinking about your design before you come in. There are several ways we can help you to get your design on to your piece. Just let us know that you would like to transfer your design when you come in and we'll help you determine which way is the best way for you!
2. Start with a good foundation. Our industry is moving back to the traditional, centuries old technique of majolica. Majolica is just a fancy word for painting over a foundation or floating one glaze over another. Our FOUNDATIONS glaze line is just that, a foundation for any art work you may create. There are about 20 colors available and the dark colors sit underneath light colors very well. The BEST WAY to use foundations is this: apply with a FAN BRUSH! This glaze is designed to seal your piece and give you a good foundation, make your brush JUICY and let the product flow on, give it two to three good juicy coats and you'll be on your way to a great project.
3. Don't be afraid to apply glaze! The products we use are all non-toxic and are very forgiving. While we don't want you to have too heavy a hand, 2-3 even and not too juicy coats of our other glaze will make your design POP on top of your foundation.
4. If you are feeling like you'd like the glaze to do the work for you, choose from our selection of specialty glazes. Again, these should be applied with a fan brush but they have great pigment chuncks that POP in the kiln and make great bursts of color.
